"Where Tony Cartledge’s book excels is in presenting the issues of astrology from a critical and analytical viewpoint that does clarify the current state of this tendentious relationship between science and astrology and introduces what is to me a familiar and yet rarely discussed factor — the work of George Gurdjieff, Peter Ouspensky and Rodney Collin and their body of ideas, called the Fourth Way. Their work brings a totally different and vigorous philosophy and practice into the discussion."

If you, like me, are always looking for that elusive link between the “miraculous” and the world of facts, between physics and metaphysics, I think you will find some unique ideas in the pages of my new book, “Planetary Types: The Science of Celestial Influence.”

It is an ambitious title, some would say, but we get nowhere these days by being timid. However, I am no wide-eyed true believer when it comes to the paranormal and you will find the pages of Planetary Types tempered with a keen scepticism. I am under no illusions about the hurdles one must mount to relate facts to theory and attempt to establish a new science, especially theories based on what a hardcore sceptic would call an extraordinary claim.

Many years ago, I came across a scheme of human types that seemed to answer all the questions I ever had about human behaviour. After studying this scheme and verifying its accuracy countless times, I decided to delve into its possible causes. I was immediately led to research into astrology, and was greatly influenced by the work of Michel Gauquelin, who has already established, many believe, a solid link between the planets and man.

The results of my research and theories are laid out in the pages of Planetary Types, which links together, for the first time, the endocrine gland types of Louis Berman, the experimental results of Michel Gauquelin, and current theories on geomagnetism, all tied together with the strings of harmonic science, resonance and vibration into a plausible mechanism for the transmission of planetary influences.

It is an extraordinary claim, and I hope, with your help, to furnish evidence that sets these theories on a sure footing. I believe we can only make true progress in this area if we step through the door to the unknown armed with our critical faculties on full alert. I hope you will join me.
